The night before, in an effort to get the kiddos to bed quickly and excited to go to the Ogden Temple open house, I keep saying "lets get to bed so we can get up early and go to the temple in the morning" over and over, full of excitement. The older kids were slowing disappearing into their rooms, but Gavin wasn't having any of it. He was so tired, but not interested in going to bed. Then the crying started and my patience was wearing thin. "Come on," I repeat, "lets get to bed, so we can go to the Temple tomorrow." More crying, and I realize its going to have to be a-hands-on-kind-of-night as I take the lead to get the jammies on and the teeth brushed, and then as I plop him down into his bed still in the mists of tears, repeat my admonition, slightly changed "okay, its time to go to sleep so we can go the the temple in the morning," and finally the truth comes out, painfully, he replies,
"But I don't want to get married!!!"
Ha - so I am teaching them something... or so I think...
Moments later, crawling into bed, Jotham reports on his bedside conversation with Hollie as he tucked her in. She'd innocently asked "What do you do at a temple outhouse?" Trying not to laugh, he responded, "You mean an open house?" Right, an open house. She never did quite make the connection and all the next day she still kept saying it wrong. Ironically, after our tour we did end up visiting the temple outhouse in the southeast corner of the parking lot and now I'm quite sure she is aware of what you do at both a temple open house and a temple outhouse. Just saying...
That night after we got home, Jotham asked Gavin how his day went, he offhandedly remarked, "Oh, I got married today" - it wasn't quite as special or awful, I guess, as he'd feared.
So who did Gavin marry at the temple?
ReplyDeleteThat is too funny. And super cute picture of the kids with the temple!
