Dinner Conversation

Tonight we discussed possible names for my future grandchildren:
From Hyrum:  Skyler and Peter
From Hannah: Penny and Cloe
From Mark: David and Jacob
From Hollie: Rapunzel and Max-o (hopefully, her taste in names will evolve with maturity)

For some reason we tell a lot of silly jokes at our house.
A short sampling of the "best" from dinner tonight:

1.
Knock, knock!
Who's there?
Owl.
Owl Who?
Owl (I'll) always love you!

2.
Why didn't the egg cross the road?
He was a little chicken.

3.
What did the pencil say to the pencil?
Boy! You're looking sharp today.

4.
What do you call an X when it gets out of the bath tub?
A Kleen-X

5.
I'd also like to tell you a joke about a pencil,
but it has no point!

We also got a lot of not so very funny jokes.  We won't mention those, they weren't very funny.

In other news, our offer was finally accepted on the house in Benson!  So it looks like we won't be homeless!  Yeah!   Now I can start dreaming and planning for real!

The Diary Food Show

Let me preface this post with
- I didn't and still don't really know what the judging criteria is
or even what the real rules are -

that being said we had a fun time
(well, everybody that is except but Jotham).

Mark took first place in his division with a Passion Fruit Julius We were surprisingly out of orange juice concentrate Saturday morning, but it worked out well.  His table setting was quickly thrown together an hour before.  He's lovin' the huge trophy!

Hannah made buttermilk pancakes and took second in her division!

Hyrum probably worked the hardest on his table setting and Black Forest Trifle and only got a participation trophy - I think he should have won!  (they docked him points for having dust on his plate (really?), a small stain on the back side of his table cloth, and apparently his homemade whipped cream wasn't sweet enough).

I made a delicious raspberry filled white cake (from scratch), and covered it in yummy white chocolate butter-cream frosting.   It may not have won but it was really, really good and pretty!  I may be a little biased but my table setting was one of the best ones there.  They docked me points because my frosting was "too dense" - my recipe "too complicated" - I set my fork as a salad fork and not a desert fork - and (get this) the font I used to type my recipe didn't match my theme.  Really?   I guess next time (if there is a next time), I'll brush up on the rules.   I'm not bitter, I promise.

It was still fun, I don't mind loosing.  Hyrum and I kept good company!  Especially since we didn't really even know how to play the game.  Plus, there's always next year!

Black and White Days

Its was Richmond Town Days this past week.  Richmond hosts the largest Dairy Holstein Cow competition west of the Mississippi, and for the first time since we've lived here,we didn't make it down to the pavilion to look at the cows.  Sadness.   The kids were all very disappointed.

We did however:
  • attend the Moo-vie in the Park, late Friday night
  • run in the Cow-a-bunga 1 mile race, early Saturday morning (the kids all placed within the top three of their age brackets, despite going to bed late - yeah!)
  • entered the Dairy Foods Contest (Mark won first, Hannah second!)
  • walked around the booths and repeatedly told the kids I didn't have any money to spend
  • watched the parade and came home with so much candy the kids have opened a "taffy factory" - featuring custom taffy sculpture.
  • cleaned the house and had some family friends over for a cook out.

It was a busy day.  I love town days.

I've got perks!

So, the other day at dinner I was trying to get Mark (the toothless wonder above) to tell us who he had a crush on.  Hyrum ratted him out, stating that Mark still liked Rachel (his crush from kindergarten) and I replied "Oh, she's cute,"  And then, of course, somebody mentioned about how real beauty is on the inside and how you shouldn't judge people.   True, true.  So then, Jotham was telling the kids how wonderful I was on the inside and Hyrum ended it with "Yeah, but Mom's got perks."

Let me interpret that for you:  My son not only thinks I'm wonderful, but I'm pretty too!  Isn't he wonderful!   Talk about a self-esteem boost!  Its moments like this when I love being a mother, especially his mother!   Its nice knowing my kids think I've got "perks."   Plus to quote another munch-kin, I'm "not as fat as most other moms" - I've got so much to be grateful for!

The following is a comic I received from Hyrum for Mother's Day:
Its me filling out a resume while applying for the job of Mother.   It made me smile.

So, back to my weight.  No, I'm not complaining, I'm celebrating!   About a month ago, I was invited to participate in the "Game On" diet with some friends and so I've been dieting for the FIRST time in my life.  Its been great, very motivational to have to be accountable to your team and earn points by staying on the diet.  I've lost six pounds!  But just today, someone told me I look great for having had five kids!  Does that mean that people that have had five kids get to be heavier?  I don't get that mentality.   I want to look great whether I've had five kids or not!  So the game ended this week (My team won!), and already I'm having a hard time sticking to my healthier lifestyle.  Why can't I just eat to live and not live to eat!  It was easier being skinny when most everything I made came from a box.   I decided I'm just a better cook now and my waist is living proof.  Sigh...

On another note, we've accepted an offer on our house.  But we won't have to move until the end of July.  Hopefully, we'll be able to find something before then.  Still no word on the Benson house.
