Let me preface this post with
- I didn't and still don't really know what the judging criteria is
or even what the real rules are -
that being said we had a fun time
(well, everybody that is except but Jotham).
Mark took first place in his division with a Passion Fruit Julius We were surprisingly out of orange juice concentrate Saturday morning, but it worked out well. His table setting was quickly thrown together an hour before. He's lovin' the huge trophy!
Hannah made buttermilk pancakes and took second in her division!
Hyrum probably worked the hardest on his table setting and Black Forest Trifle and only got a participation trophy - I think he should have won! (they docked him points for having dust on his plate (really?), a small stain on the back side of his table cloth, and apparently his homemade whipped cream wasn't sweet enough).
I made a delicious raspberry filled white cake (from scratch), and covered it in yummy white chocolate butter-cream frosting. It may not have won but it was really, really good and pretty! I may be a little biased but my table setting was one of the best ones there. They docked me points because my frosting was "too dense" - my recipe "too complicated" - I set my fork as a salad fork and not a desert fork - and (get this) the font I used to type my recipe didn't match my theme. Really? I guess next time (if there is a next time), I'll brush up on the rules. I'm not bitter, I promise.
It was still fun, I don't mind loosing. Hyrum and I kept good company! Especially since we didn't really even know how to play the game. Plus, there's always next year!

They all look super delicious! I will eat at your house anytime!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWay to go! I love the way you frosted the cake.
ReplyDeleteWow-roses! I'll take the recipe in any font. I'd give you first place!
ReplyDeleteFont? Says who?? How silly. I'm very impressed with the cake though, sheesh Jamie! Looks fantastic, and I'm particularly impressed you kept the cake looking the same even after a slice was taken out of it.
