Hatch Hallmark

I'd been wanting to do a little family trip before Hyrum left and it was just.not.working.out, failed plans after failed plans, left and right. Finally with time running out and desperate to do something, and thanks to bad weather we decided to head to Bear Lake.  For the first time ever, we pulled the kids out of school for the day and headed up the canyon to cut down our Christmas Tree.

But first: St. Nicolas Day!  It was officially St. Nicolas Day.  So, I surprised the kids with an early Christmas Present.  Ugly Sweaters, Festive socks and lights for their rooms.

Our first stop was grandma's house.  They'd just gotten a new bunny.

We found a beautiful tree without much trouble and had a picnic lunch (chili heated up on the camp stove) and sled the afternoon away.

After that we headed to our rental house in Paris, Idaho.  Hollie LOVED telling her friends she was going to Paris for the weekend.  It was a cute little old house, the kids loved it!  Okay, we all loved it.  Mark decided to I needed to redecorate in the same style and the kids were all ready to move in, nobody seemed to notice that not one of the rooms had a closet, except the master and that one wasn't even close to being big enough to hold Jotham's clothes, let alone room for mine.  Regardless, it was a nice place and comfortable.

After unloading and warming up, we headed into Montpelier for a their Christmas Light Parade.  So FUN!  Picturesque and festive.  Main street was lined with fire barrels for warmth, and as we were waiting for the parade to start we heard holiday music that sounded like it might be live, so off we traipsed in search of the music.   No live music was found, but we did find a Radio Shack across from city center that was offering free hot dogs and cocoa on the street outside their store, so we jumped right in with the locals and enjoyed the festivities.

But Hyrum's comment at this point made my day.., made all the planning and stress of this little excursion worth it.  He said,

"I feel like we're in Hallmark movie!"

And he was right, it seriously did!  The parade was short and sweet.  Ten floats tops. But fun. After the parade was over, we loaded up in the Yukon and took off.  As we were headed out of town, we noticed the police still had the street blocked off and were still redirecting traffic and to our horror discovered that the parade wasn't really over! This small town parade it went both ways, at the end of the route they turned around and came back from the other direction!  We suddenly found ourselves in the middle of the parade.  Our tree was still tied to the top of the vehicle in a festive way, so we unrolled our windows and waved as we drove out of town...

Back at the house we had dinner and played games till bedtime.  We all slept wonderfully and blissfully. The next morning after a huge breakfast and some loafing.  Seriously, some good bonding, this picture was not even posed.

About 11, we loaded up and headed back to Logan, Hannah had a guitar recital that we didn't want to miss.  She did amazing!

We lunched at Pizza Pie Cafe,

did a little Christmas shopping while we waited for our movie show time and enjoyed watching Frozen II.  Don't let anybody kid you, its not as good as the original.

Gavin was funny at this point, he kept asking when we were going home.  Not because he wanted to but because it felt like the day that never ended.  He couldn't believe all the fun things we'd been able to cram into one day. And then to top it all off we returned home to decorate Ginger Bread Houses.

Whew!  It had been a whirlwind of a day, but so wonderful to spend it together creating memories.
