All summer Jotham has been spending time in the barn getting ready to put a roof on. When we purchased this property we learned that the last barn roof came off in a wind storm and hit the house (no bueno), we still get some pretty high wind storms so he was extra diligent with the hurricane-straps. But this project feels like it was a whole summer in the making. So glad when it was time to call for help and his brother rallied to the call to make his dream of owning a barn a reality.
No more tarps ripping and blowing in your face on cold rainy nights. No more spooky late night feedings with the flash light. All is safely covered and adequately lit.
So grateful for good help: for Rustin and his boys, for Darren and Sam. Honestly, we have been blessed.
I dreamed of doing an old fashioned barn raising with fried chicken and dancing, you know, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers style. Then reality hit, these guys where plumb tuckered out after a day on the roof. I'm not even sure Jotham was smiling when it was all said and done. How they'd get farmers to actually dance after all that, I'm just not sure, maybe it's all a myth. Plus there is still so much left to do. Maybe I'll have start dreaming about a barn dance once the walls are painted, the weeds pulled, and the gates up. Urggh, I feel like its never ending.
Meanwhile back at the Hacienda, the girls were busy in the kitchen and instead of cookin' up fried chicken Hannah and Jenna made Atticus a cookie monster cake to celebrate his 1st birthday. A worthy endeavor I'm sure.
Happy Birthday Atticus!
Why did you post a picture of my droopy drawers?
ReplyDeleteI knew you would hate that! But it makes me smile, I like you in your work belt, a lot! As a bonus, it actually made you leave comment. Double Score!
