Do you remember this little boy?
I remember how excited he was to come home and tell me
all about the fun things he did at Day Camp that first year.
I remember serving as his den leader in Weblos and as fun as it was to have
Hyrum in my group that was todate the toughest calling I have ever had.
And then we moved into a ward with nobody his age, so he went to Scout Camp with
his cousin's troop and came home the victor with a boat load of badges?
I'll be honest, scouting has been challenging for me to embrace and admittedly, I was rather excited when the church announced the forth coming break with the BSA.
Hyrum was in the middle of finishing up his Eagle project when the announcement was made and as he was crossing all his t's and dotting his i's - I discovered something amazing happening to my oldest child. He was learning to communicate as an adult, doing things outside of his comfort zone, it was pushing him to become a man.
A man that is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous,
kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent.
I'd like to think he learned all those traits from me when I was teaching him the scout law as a Weblo. But I know better, it was because of amazing leaders that supported him, taught him, and served with him through scouting.
It was tricky working with the other mom's to find a good night to honor and celebrate our Eagle Scouts but all came together in the end and was worth it,
Because I am a PROUD parent of my Eagle Scout.
