He had wanted to audition, but couldn't get any of his friends to go with him, so the night of auditions he just ho-hummed about it and finally I had to coerce him into the car, and even then once we got there he was so nervous he wanted to leave, so glad we ran into Emma Thacker or I think he might have walked away from this amazing experience.
Although Joseph played a huge role in the restoration, the 14 year old Joseph's role in the play was short, sweet and simple and Hyrum played it well. It helped that he was also 14, blonde and blue eyed.
I think he had family or friends in the audience almost every night. Opening night alone he had our family, both sets of grandparents, cousins and the Hammonds all come to see him.
He made some great new friends.
You know, our (my) experience wouldn't have been nearly as positive without Heidi Rees, this wonderful woman from our ward was kind enough to drive Hyrum back and forth every night, because as much as I like Clarkston I would have liked it a lot less having to drive there and back 2x a night for three weeks. Thanks Heidi!
