Homecoming

His cute date traveled 2.5 hours on her birthday
just to go out with my handsome boy.

One of Hyrum's friend's mom did the corsages,

and another Dad did the pictures.

I volunteered to do the dinner.

of course I had to make a birthday cake for the birthday girl.

Previously that Morning:

Jot and Mark had pleasant ride down the river,
strategically hiding rubber duckies all along the way.

Later that afternoon when the kids showed up for their "day" date,
Jotham was a little surprised as the other guys canoeing skills
came into question.  Their poor dates, more than a little apprehensive.

They'd packed firewood and camp chairs
and planned to cook woof-fums on a sandbar somewhere along the way.

After dropping them off, Jotham reported back
that we'd be lucky if all our supplies made it home, and I, well...
 - PANICKED -
worried about all the cell phones in their pockets and water damage,

and I prayed pretty hard that worse case scenario, they wouldn't lose the canoes.

And they didn't.

No body even got wet.

They had a such a good time on their Rubber-Duckie Scavenger Hunt!

So good, in fact, Hyrum said he'd be willing repeat that adventure on another date.

I'll admit, I was a little jealous watching them,
I might need a canoe in my future sooner rather than later.

I'm beginning to think this teenage stuff might not be so bad after all.

It's finally starting to get fun.

For Example:

1.  Watching him get all dressed up and look so debonair = heart-throbbing!

2.  Helping him creatively ask out a cute girl = exciting!

3.  Brainstorming with him about date ideas and
encouraging him to think logically through the logistics = invigorating!

4. Watching him pull the pieces together and being a leader...hopeful!

5. Catching a glimpse of the amazing man he is becoming...

Well, that was the best part of all...completely priceless!

  1. This brings back so many fun memories. Go Hyrum, taking the lead! One of my goofiest dance asks/answers was my high school best friend and I deciding last minute we'd double for a girls choice dance, so each of us laid on the porch of each other's prospective dates with a sign that said "Someone's DYING to go to preference with you. Will talk for food." And acted dead, but popped our mouths open for food when they'd brought something. Ha!
