Pioneer day and the 4th of July

I think we watched three different firework shows this summer,
starting with the show in Franklin during the Idaho Days celebration.

There we were all laid out on a blanket in a corner of the city park enjoying the pyrotechnics when Hyrum absentmindedly took out his brand new retainers, setting them down on the blanket, to eat some licorice.  About 5 minutes after the fireworks had finished, the blanket shook and folded, we were halfway to the car, and he suddenly remembers.  Gah! You've got to be kidding! Its now pitch black, and I'm not even sure we'd be able to return to the same location where we'd been sitting, let alone find a needle in a hay stack with all that grass.

 We said a family prayer.

This was going to take a miracle.

We halfheartedly turned around to retrace our steps and I kid you not...
barely three minutes later, Mark, with all of his location skills had found the first piece
of the retainer and the second half soon followed.

This is a firm testament:

Our Family Believes.

We always enjoy going to Uncle Blake's house for the Lewiston 4th of July Parade.
I make everybody wear their "merica" colors.

Hollie even convince me to try a fancy, patriotic hair-do

after the parade we went to the Rodeo
and really enjoyed having Melanie's family join us.
Mark and Hollie both chased the cows and were able to grab
 some sticky poo covered $$$.
They spent it at Rodeo buying cotton candy,
because they were sure nobody else would accept it.

Then for Pioneer day, Benson decided to put on a parade
and asked us to built a family float:

There were maybe three floats in all, a handful of old cars, a couple of old
tractors and a whole bunch of kids on bikes.

This was the big time, people!
The parade went around the church parking lot -- TWICE!

After the parade they played some field games.

Hollie and her BBF, Jada.

Mark and his best pal, Tyler.

It may have been small, small town,
but it was some plain, ol' good, town fun!
